ChinaPac International is doing
a small part to help those unfortunate children in Asia who have been forced to
leave their families to live in an orphanage. For every passenger traveling to a
ChinaPac destination, we will donate USD 10 to the
Asian orphanages.
The devastating effects of the Asian economics crisis are
usually described in terms of currency devaluation or real estate crashes or
political upheaval.
But hidden behind the news on Asia's business leaders and
politicians are many stories of those who can't even afford a meal for
themselves or their families. And some of the most tragic victims of this crash
are the children who have been forced to leave their families, due to financial
hardship, and become orphans.
One such victim is Ipan, an 11 year old who buzzes around
cars stopped at intersections in Jakarta, singing and pleading for money with
his 4 year old sister in tow. Even after midnight, Ipan and thousands of other
beggar children continue to work the traffic in the capital of Indonesia. Some
are so small that they can't even see over the edge of the car door.
Up until months ago, Ipan had been a regular grade school
student. But when his parents lost their jobs, they could no longer afford to
pay his school fees. Ipan was forced to leave school and started begging on the
street to help support himself and his family. Click
