Yichang, located
between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River,
is an important tourist city in Hubei. Traveling upwards
along the Yangtze River from Yichang, one can enjoy
the picturesque Three Gorges. Yichang abounds in tourist
resorts, including the Gezhouba Dam, the Sanyou Cave, and
the site of the Yiling Battle during the Three Kingdoms
Period. The famous Gezhouba Hydro-Junction Project on the
mainstream of Yangtze is located in northwestern Yichang.
Here, one can also appreciate Chinese sturgeon, a rare
species under first-class state protection that dates back
to dinosaur's age. An adult sturgeon can be four meters in
length and 500 kilograms in weight, and the species is
thus called the King of Fish on the Yangtze River. Upwards
along the Yangtze River, one can arrive in its Zigu
County, where there are tombs and memorial temple of Qu
Yuan, a prestigious poet in ancient China. One can also
take a dragon boat on the Scented Stream, which is known
as the hometown of Wang Zhaojunm an eminent beauty in the
Western Han Dysnasty.
