Yichang

Yichang, located between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, is an important tourist city in Hubei. Traveling upwards along the Yangtze River from Yichang, one can enjoy  the picturesque Three Gorges. Yichang abounds in tourist resorts, including the Gezhouba Dam, the Sanyou Cave, and the site of the Yiling Battle during the Three Kingdoms Period. The famous Gezhouba Hydro-Junction Project on the mainstream of Yangtze is located in northwestern Yichang. Here, one can also appreciate Chinese sturgeon, a rare species under first-class state protection that dates back to dinosaur's age. An adult sturgeon can be four meters in length and 500 kilograms in weight, and the species is thus called the King of Fish on the Yangtze River. Upwards along the Yangtze River, one can arrive in its Zigu County, where there are tombs and memorial temple of Qu Yuan, a prestigious poet in ancient China. One can also take a dragon boat on the Scented Stream, which is known as the hometown of Wang Zhaojunm an eminent beauty in the Western Han Dysnasty.
