Dujiang
Dam
The Dujiang Dam (Dujiangyan
Irrigation System), put on the list of World Cultural and
Natural Heritage in 2002, stands on the middle reaches of
the Minjiang River northwest of Dujiangyan City, 40
kilometers to Chengdu. It is a great ancient water
conservancy project built by Li Bing, governor of Sichuan,
and his son during the Warring States period (475 - 221
B.C.). It is the dam that has benefited Sichuan, known as
a Land of Plenty today.
Mt.
Qingcheng
Mt. Qingcheng towers in Dujiangyan
City, 60 kilometers northwest of Chengdu. It is one of the
four famous mountains sacred for Taoists. It was so named
because the mountains are green all year round.
Sanxingdui
Located in the
west of Guangshan, a famous, ancient cultural city,
Sanxingdui covers an area of 120,000 square meters. In
1986, a great number of relics dating back to 4,000 years
ago were brought to light, six of which are "national
treasures" representing the best of the art of copper
in China. The discovery of Sanxingdui predates 2,000 years
of Sichuan's history and proves that the upper reaches of
the Yangtze and the Yellow River region are the cradle of
the Chinese civilization.
